Zip On Through to the Other Side
Sign up for the “registered traveler” program and zip through airport security in a mere 14 seconds?
After witnessing firsthand how well the test program was working at the Orlando International Airport, officials from San Jose have been gearing up to bring the “registered traveler” program to the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport.
The plan: Submit fingerprints, have both eyes scanned, pass a security-threat assessment, then pay about $80 a year to join.
It was rumored the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) would have the program up and running by June but here it is into July and nothing yet.
Many of my taxi customers, that are frequent business travelers, are anxious to participate. They have asked me if I knew what the problem was. I decided to give the head of Airport Media Relations, Mr. Rich Dressler, a call.
Mr.Dressler told me that he was not sure why TSA was moving so slowly on implementing the program. He suggested that my customers go ahead and sign up and to contact TSA making their interest known.
