Where Techy and Artsy Meet
Remember the Constellation project I posted about in my entry on the Maker Faire? Jeremy Fitzhardinge, the fellow who made it, is presenting at tonight’s Dorkbot. There’s some other good stuff too–Shannon Wright will discuss her mechanical sculptures, Michael Laine will talk about space elevators, and then there’s “open dork” at the end. It starts at 7:30 in rxGallery downtown. I know where I’m going to be . . .
The Found Magazine people are also going to be in town with their Cavalcade of Thrills Tour. They’re at Edinburgh Castle tonight at 8, Intersection for the Arts tomorrow at 9, and Pegasus Books in downtown Berkeley on Friday at 8. I might go there and talk with someone about the Found Electronics project I started a while ago when I came across the fax machine shown to the right on UN Plaza. If you’ve come across interesting bits of technology abandoned on the streets, please share!

Do you want the actual abandoned technology? Or just photos of them? Seriously though, the number of monitors alone chucked to the curb I see weekly is enough to populated a coffee table book. Since I carry my camera practically everywhere as well, expect a few!
:-) Yeah, I’ve noticed quite a few of those. At first I’d take pictures of any old machine on the sidewalk, but I’ve started restricting myself to the more interesting ones (like the flayed television I posted recently).
I think my all-time prize has to go to the 286-era Compaq a homeless guy was using as a pillow a couple blocks from my place. I wasn’t able to get a picture of that one, though.
