Chinatown Pickpockets
I’m from a small town, and I used to really enjoy the “Sheriff’s Blotter” that came out once a month. You’d read about high crimes, like missing throw pillows from rec rooms (no lie). Well, living in the urban ghetto that SF isn’t… well can be at least… I’m now getting the Central Precinct’s bulletin. I will filter out the interesting things and repost here for your enjoyment. I just noticed actually that Matier & Ross of sfgate also read the same bulletin. OK now for a regurg’taded story re: Chinatown pickpockets after the jump.
On 6/3/06 at 1:42 PM at Stockton and Jackson Streets a woman and her mother were shopping for produce when they were ‘bumped’ by 2 Hispanic males. The woman noticed that her mother’s wallet was taken from her purse and she confronted the men. The victim called 911 while the suspects denied the theft. Finally one of the men admitted that he took the wallet but threw it into a doorway. The woman refused to fall for the ploy and eventually the suspect produced the wallet from his jacket. Officers responded and took both men into custody and recovered additional property.

I live in Bayview Hunters Point and our local police captain also periodically emails this kind of information to those who request to be on his distribution list. It’s handy to know what streets/intersections purse snatchings happen most often, where the crack dealers are hanging out, etc. so one can avoid those areas. Occassionally, we read stories about really stupid criminals, too, which is always lots of fun.
