“An Inconvenient Truth” opens this weekend

Al Gore’s documentary about global warming, An Inconvenient Truth, opens this Friday here in the Bay Area.

From Moveon.org:

“”An Inconvenient Truth,” is a true story about the hard science and real threats of global warming and it’s told by one of the most inspiring and passionate advocates for change–Al Gore. How the movie does on opening weekend in your town will decide how the movie is received in the press and possibly how many other cities get to see it….

Plus, Paramount even agreed to donate 5% of ALL box office receipts for An Inconvenient Truth to the Alliance for Climate Protection. So we’ll get to see a great movie and donate to an important cause at the same time.”

The film is showing in San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, and Mill Valley, as well as San Jose and Palo Alto.

I plan on seeing it in San Jose at Santana Row on Saturday.

Al Gore? Was that the guy that talked about clams? No, that was probably this guy.

You could not pay me to go.

My friends in NYC say it last weekend, and they said it is NOT to be missed. Very moving, and a little upsetting (in that “make you think” kind of way). I’ll be checking it out! Thanks for the tip that it’s opening here…

I have seen it twice in Marin. It takes the debate out of “is this getting warmer or not”. Unfortunately, All the evidence is shouting YES!! It challenges us to see if we, as a planet, can come to grips with this truth, or will we allow our governments to hide our collective heads in the sand. I would strongly recommend everyone see it and not just you greenies, but people from all political points of view. We all need to work very hard on this. I encourage everyone to bring those friends who might just not quite be aware, buy them a ticket and take them to lunch if you must, but get them there! Thanks for helping us to see this issue so clearly!

I am old enough to remember this from the early 1970’s: Global cooling is indeed the “greatest threat facing mankind”.

98% of total global greenhouse gas emissions are natural (mostly water vapor); only 2% are from man-made sources. Although the climate has warmed slightly in the last 100 years, 70% percent of that warming occurred prior to 1940, BEFORE greenhouse gas emissions from industrial processes, autos, etc.

Could it be “Mother Nature” may have her own ideas where she wants to set the thermostat? Do you know that the Vikings, at one point, farmed in what is now frozen Greenland.

I do not believe that Al Gore woke up one morning and decided to become this passionate advocate to save (us) the earth. More like he needed a passion, any passion to run with.

Ideas can be packaged, statistics maneuvered to fit nicely into a “true” documentary to promote almost any, shall we say, agenda?

Is Al yelling “FIRE!” in his own theater?
