Ferry Smash - and Local News Rant
Like the Staten Island ferry debacle, we here had our own ferry plowing into a heavily populated ferry dock. 9 injured, including a little girl!
And what gets me is that the Chron relegated it to the Bay Area section of my Sunday paper. That, to me, is top news. And the photos! No carnage at all! I wanted blood, guts, at least some broken wood. What did our erstwhile reporters give us? Some tiny bits of debris on the deck. Come on, Chron, either do local news well, or international/national, but don’t completely fail at both.
Onto the story in question, I guess it was a mechanical failure.

So wait - it’s funny when people get hurt? Including kids?
Uh, no- the coverage was pathetic, that’s what I’m saying.
Not sure that exactly came across in your blog post is all.
Sorry I just don’t see where you take offense. I talk for 90% of the blog about the Chron coverage. My exclamation point re: the child’s injury is about how strange it is that EVEN with a child’s injury the Chron still didn’t give it top coverage.
Most of the post is the “these photos suck, I want some blood!” part, which made me think “wait, is this tongue-in-cheek?”. So I read the whole post a second time and thought “wait… she’s not saying that it’s exciting that we had our very own ferry accident with injuries… is she?”
I’m sure that seems ridiculous from your side since you obviously didn’t intend any of this, but I’ve met disconnected city hipsters who think “action” is exciting, where “action” might include car crashes, fires, whatever.
I’m not *offended*, btw. I’m just sayin.
