Ferry Building Farmers’ Market: now on Sunday

One of the things I love to do the most is go to the Ferry Building Farmers’ Market on saturday mornings; I’ll even get up and skip coffee to drag my ass down to the waterfront to sip a hot soy latte and munch on delicious locally-baked chocolate croissants, and people-watch. After that, I shop and enjoy all the fresh herb smells and ogle whatever is in season, from asparagus to tomatoes. Rain or shine. It makes me feel like part of the seasonal traditions, of farming, food and the potential of coming together with a group of friends over wine and fresh, locally grown artichokes or local handmade ravioli.
But missing saturday sucks; now I don’t have to anymore. Starting tomorrow, the Ferry Building Farmers’ Market kicks off the beginning of sunday markets; it’s seasonal so it only runs until Fall, but now it means you can nibble on samples, support local farmers and get delicious fresh food all weekend long, at least until 2pm every day. Last week they also kicked off the seasonal opening of Thursday’s Ferry Building Night Market, open from 4-8pm.
This sunday they’re celebrating the opening with $5 fresh-made organic strawberry shortcakes at 11:30am and a talk and book signing by Michael Pollan, author of The Botany of Desire (Pollan: 11am). Strawberylicious image from voxispa found @ Flickr.

When this page first loaded, on quick glance, I thought you had posted my strawberry picture that I posted a few days ago. I went, “Hey! Cool! … Ohhh … it’s not mine.”
The Ferry Building Farmer’s Market is one of my favorite places; I always take out of town visitors there for Saturday morning brunch and shopping.
Oh man, I am so there. I think I’ll have to come up to the city early on Sunday just for the shortcake!
The Botany of Desire is one of my favorite books - I’m so sad I’ve checked in too late to get this notice in time to have met him.
Wah!
