Beard Papa’s in San Francisco

Spotted somewhere downtown near Mission Street, somewhere near the Metreon, I spotted a Beard Papa’s cafe in construction. I practically jumped out of the car, I was so excited. Okay, so it’s a chain, and it seems to be a no-no in this city to heart chains. But I still love the stuff. Beard Papa’s is the home of the creamiest damn cream puffs I’ve ever tasted. Their claim to fame is “fresh and natural” cream puffs and I don’t doubt it.
This is, as far as I know, their first ever Bay Area outlet. I’ll go scout around the area as soon as I can and let you know the exact address. Because TRUST me, you’ll want in on some of this.
PS. If you know of any other place in the city that serves up some good cream puffs, leave a comment!

It’s on Yerba Buena Lane (which is a new pedestrian lane connecting Market and Mission between 3rd and 4th), and it opens May 12.
Not that I’m looking forward to trying it out or anything.
Some of my favorite chains:
Peets!
Fat Apples
Cody’s
Cafe Macaroni (well, they span Columbus street)
Caffe Trieste (emeryville AND sf)

I know the sign out front says “May 12″ but walking home from work tonight, I discovered that they were open and handing out free cream puffs (as well as a complimentary full menu) to a very small yet deliriously eager crowd. I broke every dietary principle and discipline I hold dear – and MAN was that cream puff just wonderful. No other way to put it. Back to being my vigilant puritan self tomorrow… [sigh]
Yum, yum, yum!!! Love the stuff. Have had it several times already and love it.
