Oh those fun Pledge Drives, and other Charities
It’s the lovely time of year where all of our public radio stations have been invaded by persuasive, guilt-tripping broadcasters: pledge drive time! I have to say that KCSM (www.kcsm.org) has the most comedic off the cuff pledge drive people, and amazingly low goals (500$ was their hour goal right now!). In other notes, my brother-in-law just met one of his all time superstars, one of the personalities of KQED. It’s like collecting baseball cards. Have you met Terry from Fresh Air? Castinega from the traffic report? Cokie from NPR Continued…
I wonder if they choose this time strategically: after taxes when we are asked by our tax forms: did you spend at least 200$ on charities? I’m a sucker every year right about now to blow the money that I claim. So, pick your favorite charities! My set of return labels list my donations in the last year or so:
- red cross
- medicins sans frontieres (doctors without borders, en anglais) yes, i’m a big showoff.
- naral
- open hand
- the north beach citizens (outreach to the’hood)
