Lotta Crabtree rocks Sparkletack
I love Sparkletack — and if you aren’t familiar with this awesome podcast, and you love San Francisco, then you should be. Sparkletack does these wonderful, deeply detailed and lovingly researched podcasts and posts about San Francisco history, creating an astounding multimedia online archive of all kinds of cool things. Right now, Sparkletack’s latest episode is about Lotta Crabtree, the woman whose name graces our beautiful downtown “Lotta’s Fountain”. San Francisco was a place unlike any other in the late 1800’s; as you can see in the awsome photo at right, Lotta wore pants, smoked cigars and enjoyed many of same the freedoms as men, as was the fashion here in SF (like the volunteer fireperson, hard gambling Lillie Coit).
