Beyond Representation art opening tonight
I’m naturally suspicious of anything with the word “Scion” attached to it, but one of my favorite painters in the whole world Michael Hussar (browser resize warning) is going to be in SF tonight for Beyond Representation, a group show curated by Shawn Barber and presented as part of the San Francisco Dashboard (Scion) series. At tonight’s show in Hayes Valley starting at 7pm, the opening presents works by Shawn Barber, Kent Williams (!), Kevin Llewellyn, Kristi Ropeleski, Sterling Hundley, George Pratt, Jennifer Poon, Sean Cheetham, Mercedes Helnwein, Dennis Brown, James Kei — and my favorite Michael Hussar, who will be showing several oils from his personal collection, and two limited edition Daddy’s Girl prints will be on sale. (Shown at right.) I’m bringing a drool cup; it’s a mind-blowing lineup.
Scion Dashboard Gallery (wtf is with the fact that there’s no URL for this!?)
Show preview @ Shawn Barber
opening tonight 7-11pm; show remains up for a week
580 Hayes Street @ Laguna
According to an email I recieved from the Shooting Gallery, Shawn Barber curated, but then Scion censored his picks, allowing only art they’ve approved into the show.
The Shooting Gallery on Larkin and Geary will have the censored bits hanging tonight only.
Pete, this is awesome, thank you. the Shooting Gallery is one of out local treasures. and it’s so *not* shocking about Scion.
Damn I want one of those Daddy’s Girl prints although I’m sure the 2 of them are already sold in like the first .12 seconds of the gallery opening.
The website for all shows at the Dashboard Gallery launched last week, after we had sent in the information for the show to metroblogging.
You can check out the weekly gallery hours and upcoming shows with Norm (AWR/MSK) and Rocardo Richey at http://www.scion.com/dashboard.
Thanks for posting.
Hi Dashboard, I never got any information about this event, but instead was personally emailed by one of the artists. I posted this because I knew someone in the show, not because I got a press release. I’m wondering if your release somehow wound up in our spam folder. Thanks for paying attention and posting a comment. If you get a chance to post again, can you address why not all of Shawn Barber’s picks were in the gallery show? I think our readers would love to hear your perspective.
