The press release reads: “DON’T BE ‘ALARMED’ BY SIRENS AND BELLS
ON APRIL 18 AT 5:14 A.M.!!”

The Mayor has asked that any “places of worship” and fire departments to ring their bells in a citywide cacophony ensured to wake up just about everyone in the city at 5:14 am tomorrow morning. This is following the moment of silence at 5:13 am at the Lotta’s Fountain Memorial. I don’t know if people will as much alarmed as they will be annoyed but I’ll be down at the memorial so maybe it’ll help keep us awake. Either way I’m guessing it will be pretty impressive.

“Together we will honor the memory of those who lived through - and those who didn’t
survive - this terrible disaster,” said Mayor Gavin Newsom. “But we will also take this
tremendous opportunity to celebrate our history and our culture, the San Francisco spirit
that emerged from quake and fire and made this one of the world’s great cities.”
