terror in the 94114

http://sf.metblogs.com/archives/images/2006/04/terror94114-thumb.jpgI had no idea that FEMA was short for AIDS until I got this lovely anonymous mailer in my mailbox today. That’s right: the fundies sent out a mass-mail to SF — does anyone know if all zipcodes got these, or were only certain neighborhoods targeted? I’m especially wondering because I’m in the 94114 — specifically the Castro — but everyone knows what kind of free-thinking sexified heathens (can afford to) live in the 94114.

Still amazed they sent this to the Castro, addressed to “resident”. Cover text: “What’s next? (EARTHQUAKES TSUNAMIS AIDS TERROR) Are you PREPARED? SAN FRANCISCO EDITION”

I really think the Alcatraz tourist t-shirt font was a nice touch. Like those shirts, “My Grandma went to Alcatraz and all I got was this lousy t-shirt”, except more like “My sinner uncle moved to the Castro and caused a tsunami with his homosexuality and all I got was this lousy AIDS”. They’re clearly cashing in on the whole 1906 anniversary, as seen by the vintage quake pic and big pavement crack photo (crack kills!) on the back. Inside it’s all Jesus and American flags and huge images of the 1906 quake ruins with all kinds of “give me that good, olde-tyme Armaggeddon”, in addition to the whole thing claiming to be penned by “one who eye-witnessed the devastation of The Great San Francisco Earthquake”.

I got one in 94117. I didn’t look at it closely, but saved it, thinking it would have info to help me put together a disaster kit. But, yesterday I finally checked it out, realized what it was, and promptly threw it away.

wow, maybe it’s a citywide sweep! should get an ‘06 award for “best regional exploitation of history and fear by a fundie group”, then…

94117 here. I got one in the mail, and thought “Great! This will tell me how to prepare for the earthquake/tsumami/swarm of locusts that try to kill me in the near future. I put it on my counter (this was, of course, after watching the Discovery Channel special “America’s Tsumami - Are we next?”)

When I came home later, it was gone. My boyfriend said “I threw out that cult thing, guess you won’t get saved.” Silly me.

Check for us Missionites in the 94110. I was even all jaded about it being another earthquake preparedness piece. Very “I’ve lived here most of my life…. I have bottled water and band-aids!” But oh joy when I opened it and realized god/mother nature were just poised and ready to take my ass out.

sorry ’bout the double post– Firefox closed itself.

94103, nothing on my street, but Guerrero must have received it because i saw it on their steps. why would they skip my street, Clinton Park? Not that I am unhappy about it, just perplexed.

If it’s any consolation, I got two of these at my pad in 94117 and one in the PO box. Guess I’m one of the top heathens in the City! :)

Just a note, this booklet actually comes from the Seventh Day Adventist Church. After going to whats-next.org (from the back page) you can find a link to bibleinfo.com and eventually another link to the maker of the booklet, the Seventh Day Adventist Church. I wonder why they hide themselves so well? if it is really the truth they have, they would not have to hide themselves. comments?

For those of us who are not great adherents to the Christian faith, there is at least one point, if we have dared to read the book, with which we all should agree: the seperation of church and state is a constitutional freedom none of us can afford to take for granted and the encroachment on that freedom is our greatest national threat (see pages 29-36). Many of our “friends” in the religious right see the seperation of church and state as limiting religious freedom, and they are determined to take that wall of seperation down in their fight for political dominance. America is asleep to her danger. Church/State watchdog groups have been sounding the alarm for years, but few are listening. At least these folks have the courage to say something, albeit in religious terms. It is interesting that they see the movements of the religious right as the fulfillment of Bible prophecy as they seek to enforce morality and worship by law to save the nation. WHAT’S NEXT? The return of the Dark Ages and the Inquisition? Are you prepared? Is anybody listening?

  17. Jason D- (unregistered) on April 18th, 2006 @ 9:58 am

Nope Curtis, no one is listening. Wait, did you say something?

  18. Jorge (unregistered) on April 26th, 2006 @ 12:36 pm

Yeah there does seem to be some interesting info about the ever-increasing relationship of church and state thanks to the religious right and christian coalition types. You flaming liberals should have actually taken a glance before chucking it, these people are on your side.
