2006 Xmas Tree Burn

On the evening of Jan 7th 2006, over a hundred strange people gathered for the annual Xmas Tree burn on Ocean Beach. It was a “bring your own tree” event, but many people came just to observe. Still, there were a whole lot of trees on the pyre and they went up rather nicely. Once the fire was blazing, several people broke out their poi and did the firedance thing. Good times and stiff drinks were enjoyed by many as the Yule trees were rapidly composted back into their carbony elements.

Leave it to a hippie-tree hugging city to incinerate its chopped down living things in defiance of pleas from the air quality people.

I suppose they could have been mulched but… don’t forget that SF is also the world nexxus of fire art. And fire makes everything better. I wonder what else happens to Xmas trees that are left on the curb?

Yeah, I still have someone’s tree laying next to my scooter outside, wtf? I also watched my neighbors carry theirs up the hill and into the park for disposal. I am for FIRE! When I was a kid we did the same thing in the field behind our house. I always thought it was beautiful.
