Noe Knit

Noe Knit
I never thought I’d admit it, but: I’m a knitter. I picked up the craft a year or so ago while perusing some interesting books at a campus bookstore, bought this book called “Stitch n Bitch” and thought I’d just do this knitting thing for a lark. Well, the lark has now blown up into a full-blown desire to knit all the time. It’s sad, really. I just finished this hat, and now I’m searching for patterns all over the Internet, trying to figure out what to do next. The curious thing I’ve discovered is that knitting is really becoming a young woman’s craft now, what with all the punk rock designs and cool patterns emerging.

I say this because Noe Knit seems to be hitting that market full on with their super hip and clean-looking store aesthetic. I mentioned quite awhile ago about other local yarn stores like ImagiKnit and ArtFibers, and while I still think ImagiKnit is a fantastic place to go just for the sheer variety, Noe Knit has a lot of other things going for it that makes it, in my opinion, probably the best yarn store we have here in the city. First, the simple clean-cut layout of the store. This store is NOT your grandmother’s yarn store — we’re talking plain bold colors, with designs and projects in-store that’s more urban chic than cheesy kitsch. Next is the fantastically high quality yarns. Sure there’s not too much of variety since the store is small, but what you DO find is almost always better than what you wanted. Plus they have a really amazing selection of Organic Hand-Spun stuff that you may not find at other stores. And if you’re a little confused on what yarn to use, the store’s employees are more than happy to help out. Which leads to my third reason why this place is awesome: Customer service. I went there, not knowing what to really buy or do, and the lady I spoke to was just enormously friendly and helpful. It also doesn’t hurt that Noe Knit is the one yarn store that’s quite tech-savvy (I asked the lady about a yarn replacement, she Googled it right in front of me, got me the right gauge, and I was ready to find what I needed).

So if you want a proper URBAN knitting store, Noe Knit is definitely it. It hits all the strong aesthetic points that makes knitting hip again, and just for that, it wins major points in my book. Definitely a place to get started if you’re new to the craft too, since they also offer knitting lessons.
