HELP !!!
This morning I went to my local American Red Cross. I gave a modest donation to the Hurricane Relief Fund. I’m hoping others will too.
If you are feeling the need to help out in the Gulf Coast in person, the Red Cross suggests that you take their two-day boot camp first. The training will help prepare you for the carnage you will encounter. The experience could be traumatic and stressful. Volunteers will be required to stay 2-3 weeks.
90 volunteers (many Cisco employes) are ready to fly out soon. More volunteers are needed and they are hoping for 500 by the end of September. The receptionist, Dennis, is there to answer your questions about the boot camp or take your donation.

The Red Cross does good work. They fed me when I was evacuated during a major fire in the foothills. But they may not be the best choice, and certainly aren’t the only ones worthy of your donation. FEMA lists 2nd Harvest, as well as a number of religious groups. Personally, I’ve opted to help the animals.
Morey, I think we need to do whatever we can to help. What we feel comfortable with.
Being cautious of any organisation is fine…as you should also be sceptical of what you read.
Go to http://www.give.org to check out how much $ donated to each charity actually goes to disaster relief. Americare seems to be the most efficient.
