Not THAT kind of Mime
While walking through Yerba Buena Gardens yesterday afternoon, we came upon a large truck bearing the San Francisco Mime Troupe logo (pictured here). We curiously looked at each other and joked about mimes, chuckling.
A fellow loading the truck overhead us and said, “It’s not that kind of mime.”
We laughed dismissively and continued on our journey. As we got closer to the truck we saw a caption below the logo. It read quite clearly, “Not that kind of mime”. Who knew? We laughed at ourselves in response.
Unfortunately, we had just missed out on finding out for ourselves what kind of mime it really was, for they had just completed a show there at the gardens.
Fortunately for us (and everyone else!), they put on a LOT of shows. Just this week alone:
- Wednesday, August 3: Civic Center, in front of City Hall (Free show!)
- Thursday, August 4: Sebastopol Vets Hall/Town Hall Coalition
- Saturday, August 6: Glen Park (free show!)
- Sunday, August 7: Washington Square Park (Free show!)
What kind of mime are we talking about, anyway?

You know, one time, I was at this writing program at Kenyon College in Ohio and sharing the campus that week was Cheer! Ohio (like ALL the cheerleaders in Ohio) and a mime camp. THAT kind of mime.
You can’t fabricate comedy like that, lemme tell you . . . .
The SF Mime Troupe is cool. I saw them perform at Delores Park last summer. I too was expecting that it would be pantomime stuff, but believe me, it wasn’t! It was a full on original play with music, song, sound effects, etc.
