Why I love blogging

Just looked at all the SF news sites for blackout news and all I could find was more Terri Schiavo stories. Nothing on the blackout at all yet. How lame. Bloggers rule the planet! Heh, a guy can dream can’t he?

Hear’s the response I got from city government on this issue Also PG & E said that they did not see any problem with their internet response.

Hi Kimo, thanks for your message. Unfortuneately, at this point we don’t have the ability to do any real-time information about an emergency on the web. We are preparing some standard messages for possible incidents but the ability to make these pages live immediately following an incident, especially if it’s the weekend or after-hours, is beyond our capacity right now. It sounds like even PG&E is unable to provide this service but maybe comments such as yours will help them to realize that this could be an important means of communication in such situations – especially since so many people have wireless internet access from cellphones and laptops these days.

One of the most important things you can have in your emergency kit is a battery powered radio. We’ll use the Emergency Alert System as the first means of communication should we have important information for the public.

There is also the Siren system which can be used to make localized voice announcements to the public outdoors.

I hope this has been helpful. Let me know if you have other questions or comments and I’ll try and find answers for you.

    Best, Amy
