MUNI holdup
There was quite a massive holdup of at the West Portal MUNI station earlier today. I believe it started around 2 p.m. I was on the M train inbound, and when the train entered the West Portal station, it stopped and stalled. At first I thought it was the typical MUNI thing of waiting for the trains in front to move on. However, it was an uncharacteristic long wait, and it turns out there was a problem of some kind further along the tunnel. So we were all encouraged to leave the train, which most of us did.
This resulted in a huge crowd of people around the station, as a couple of other trains were stuck behind the M. I saw the MUNI authority personnel directing traffic, and I think they were routing special bus shuttles to West Portal in order to take people downtown. Incoming trains were also re-routed as Outbound L Taraval trains, so as to avoid traffic. It was quite a mess, with large crowds of people running about, dodging cars and buses as they maneuver their way to their appropriate transit vehicle. There was also quite a holdup of 48 buses, since some of those were used as the special downtown shuttles.
I’m guessing this will screw up all the other MUNI train schedules today. So, be aware of that if you’re planning on taking a MUNI train today.
