Thoughts of Snow

I know it’s getting close to the San Francisco Summer, but my midwestern thoughts are already turning to autumn. And when they turn to autumn, they invariably turn to snow.
After my deep drift depression last winter, my husband promised we’d check out Lake Tahoe this year. That way I can roll in the flakes, make angels, and generally get my snowy ya-yas out.
Here’s the problem: having just moved here, we don’t know anything about where to stay. What’s cheap and pretty?
And by cheap, I mean less than $100 a night. And by pretty I mean, well, pretty.
Snow and cold, that’s all I ask.

tripadvisor.com pointed us to the Holiday Inn Express in South Lake Tahoe…in spring it was $119, had a sauna, hot tub, and the best continental free breakfast I’ve ever enjoyed at a hotel, including hot fresh cinnamon rolls. And it’s close by the casinos. Just sayin.

For a cheap place, check out Best Western right across from Safeway. Great location if you’re planning on going to Heavenly as it is just down the block from Ski Run Blvd. Nothing luxurious, but it has a fireplace and enough room to sleep six (if two don’t mind the floor).
